The Art centre la Malmaison

The Art centre la Malmaison Cannes: the famous La Croisette Cannes Boulevard is home to the La Malmaison Art Center, a building that was converted into a museum space in 1983. It is the pavilion that has survived the changes made to the original building and now offers exhibitions of contemporary art.Going back to the history of La Malmaison is to go where the Grand Hotel was built. The latter was then built in 1863 from the work of the architects Vianey and Blondel, a few months after the promenade was delivered.As a hotel establishment, the building had 150 rooms, lounges and reading rooms. Part of the building was dedicated to a playroom and tea room until 1945 when Aimé Maeght presented the first exhibitions.This lodge was bought by Lord Crawford after 1945 but the Grand Hotel was demolished in 1950. The reconstruction of the building was carried out in 1963 and the city of Cannes then decided to buy in 1970, the part that has undergone no demolition or reconstruction, La Malmaison.Under the direction of the cultural affairs of municipal management, it has been converted into a museum space as already mentioned above and it has also undergone a renovation.The garden level has become the center of art of 207 m² which hosts 2 to 3 presentations each year since 2000. The Malmaison has seen 29 exhibitions of paintings and sculptures passed since its creation, each edition of which reveals a hundred works of private or public collections.That is to say that artists of international renown in the field of painting and sculpture have been the subject of a monographic exhibition of which Matisse, Ozenfant or Picasso or Miro, Masson, César and Teh-Chun.
